Omar should not entertain BJP’s political prostitution
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Apr 15: He may have done it out of an apprehension for his National Conference in late 1970s but Sheikh Abdullah in history enjoys the distinction of having pioneered the anti-defection law in India. If the Department of Law has slept over the need of an amendment to J&K Peoples Representation Act of 1957, that governs the conduct of elections for Legislative Council, Sher-e-Kashmir’s successors should share the responsibility.
Owing to the absence of the amendment, that would have brought the state law at par with the central Peoples Representation Act of 1951, the prospect of cross-voting and horse trading exists in Jammu & Kashmir. It is because of this d...

JAMMU, Apr 15: What a fall in the saffron brigade which claims to stand for distinctive features of dignity, self-respect and loyality. The April 13 J&K legislative council polls, in which seven
BJP MLAs defected in favour of the candidates of ruling NC-Congress combine, has put a blot on its escutcheon. Those, who did not follow the party whip and defected, have undoubtedly brought a disgrace to the party, which had for the first time raised its tally to 11 in state assembly, riding on the
Amarnath land agitation wave.
While NC was vocal in opposing the allotment of land to raise temporary structures for Amarnath pilgrims in Kashmir, Congress had come under severe cri...

MINCING NO WORDS
NEHA
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 15: The BJP’s act of political dishonesty and its hobnobbing with the NC, the Congress and the PDP has evoked widespread condemnation. Everyone, without any exception, has denounced the BJP, which threw to the wind all democratic principles on April 13 during the Legislative Council elections and voted for its so-called arch political rivals dismissing with contempt their own candidate. There is none who has not dubbed the BJP as an anti-Jammu political outfit. There is none who has not taken the BJP to task for its double-speak, double-standard and politics of deceit and demanded the resignation of those who made common cause with th...

EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, Apr 15: Addressing the seminarians, Retired DGP M M Khajuria said: “Ever since its creation, the conduct of Indo-Pak relations by Pakistan was characterized by brinkmanship and denial. Military dictators and elected rulers alike have traditionally been indulging in double-speak and blowing hot and cold. As a result, numerous efforts at peace making proved fruitless. In this dismal state of relationship a ray of hope for peace, friendship and mutually beneficial relations between two estranged neighbours appeared when Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Yousuf Raza Gilani met on the sidelines of the last SAARC concl...
| | What is wrong with Dogra Certificate by the way? | ' Paish Az Marg Waviala ' | |
Comment
Early Times Report
Jammu, April 15: Knowledgeable quarters have expressed surprise over `uncalled’ for reaction that the Dogra Certificate issue has evoked. Quoting the Persian verse Paish Az Marg Waviala (To cry before one is actually hurt), these quarters said such attitude can only deepen the wedge between various regions of the state.
Those who raise a hue and cry over the issue do not actually know what it is all about. Everybody is quoting the order issued in February this year. However, nobody is aware of the details. And making it a Jammu v/s Kashmir issue at this sensitive juncture of State’s history cannot be justified by any means.

I fail to understand why so much of hue & cry on Dogra certificate issue. This is a non issue and the misgivings raised by the section of the society would be settled by the cabinet. Dogra certificate should be given to the youth of Jammu -Hindus , Muslims, Sikhs and other and I don’t see any thing wrong in it.

In my view, there is nothing wrong in issuance of Dogra certificate. If it is in the benefit of the youth of Jammu province, it should be welcomed by all. There should be same kind of benefit available to the students of Ladakh and Kashmir valley. This certificate should work as a bridge between the three regions and everyone should be treated as equals.

I hail from Kishtwar and presently pursuing my Law Degree from Jammu University. People of Kashmir should also be given same kind of relaxation rather benefit. Any certificate issued by government should not create wedge between two regions. If Dogra certificate is given to Jammu youth, Kashmiri certificate should be given to youth of Kashmir so that they not feel alienated.
