TOP STORY OF THE DAY
NC runs government on whims, Congress bound by coalition Dharma
NC's iron hand on its people in Kashmir is an apparent welcome to the opposition in PDP that has already shown its teeth deep in the valley in recently concluded Panchayat elections Photo by Waseem Andrabi

Early Times Report jammu, July 18: The state government's handling of the demands made by its employees has been pathetic. The government has been cracking its whip on its own employees. It is like a confused person trying to break his own legs. It has been the track record of the ruling National Conference (NC) to make promises and then quickly backtrack on them. The state government during its negotiations with the agitating employees agreed to all the demands raised by the employees and this includes the payment of the arrears as per the recommendations of the 6th Pay Commission. Two years back, the government made promises to the leaders of the striking government employees and it was based on those assurances that the employees returned to work after a protracted session of negoti...

Get well soon
7/19/2011 12:21:37 AM
Early Times Report jammu, July 18: High fever is not a disease in itself. it is only a symptom of some ailment , mostly infection that can be controlled (if not cured fully) by a single dose of anti-biotic. Normally, people with high fever resume their normal work after taking rest and medicines. But when the ailing persons happens to be the Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, no risk can be taken. He has to take rest but how long. With municipal elections round the corner, Omar has to `get well soon'. It seems all the hard work put in by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah in the recent weeks have taken a toll on his health. Omar has been putting in hectic efforts to keep the state running. ...

Congress rank and file yearning for 'change of guard' by 2012
Rotational CM
7/19/2011 12:21:10 AM
Early Times Report jammu, July 18: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram might have reassured Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that there would no change of guard in January 2012. Congress general secretary and Sonia Gandhi's son, Rahul Gandhi, who maintains cordial relations with Omar Abdullah, might be for the status quo. Omar Abdullah might have entertained the belief that he would rule the state for a full term of six years. But these assurances and the Chief Minister's belief do not reflect the mood of the majority of the Jammu-based Congress leaders and workers. The mood here in Jammu is totally different. During the last few days, this scribe met scores of...

Referendum In Jammu -- I
7/19/2011 12:16:25 AM
Rustam EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, July 18: Syed Ali Shah Geelani and several other Kashmiri leaders have been insisting on right-to-self-determination for years now. They have been saying the political future of the state still remains to be determined and that the UN resolutions provide for the right-to-self-determination and, hence, it should be granted to what they call "Kashmiris." There is another group in Kashmir which stands for pre-1953 position or withdrawal of all the central laws from the state or semi-independence...

The order had nowhere envisaged concessions for the Hindus. The order was applicable to all inhabiting Jammu province, including Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs. But Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz and a number of other Kashmiri leaders,...
