Social Welfare feeding poison to Anganwari kids
Food samples in all 10 medical blocks found adulterated in Budgam
9/20/2011 11:46:45 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 20: Indicating a nexus between the suppliers and officials of Social Welfare Department, samples of the food items provided to thousands of young children at Anganwari Centers have been found adulterated in all 1o medical blocks in Budgam district. Rather than initiating criminal proceedings against the suppliers and assessing culpability of the officials, authorities in Drug and Food Control Organisation are said to be hushing up the matters. Parents of hundreds of children at 1500 Anganwari Centres in Budgam district had been crying hoarse since beginning of the current year that substandard and adulterated supplies were being received by officials and delivered at AW centres. According to them, nutrients and food components were being circulated to over 30,000 children without any examination or analysis by the experts. In the face of a public outcry, Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Budgam directed all the 10 Block Medical Officers in April to pick up random samples at different AW centres and get them examined by food analysts. Since the overwhe...

`Politics makes strange bed fellows'
9/20/2011 11:45:32 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 20: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mahbooba Mufti's statement praising Gujarat Chief Minister Narender Singh Modi has evoked a comment from the state chief Minister. According to Omar's latest tweet, Mahbooba has backtracked from her Modi comments. "I'm not surprised Mahbooba praised Modi, she can praise who ever she likes; I am surprised she'd deny it knowing others heard her speech", Omar tweeted. Abdullah also advised her to admit the fact that she had praised Modi. Mahbooba's statement and Omar's tweets prove it beyond doubt that both the leaders have not understood the ground situation in its right perspectives. Both of them know no hearts be...

Sheikh Nazir fails to get security for NC vice-president
9/20/2011 11:44:23 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Sept 20: While the state government has been generous enough to give security to people who unsuccessfully contested the municipal elections, the General Secretary of ruling National; Conference, Sheikh Nazir's request for a personal security officer (PSO) for senior vice-president of his party, Vinod Bhalla has been turned down. Sheikh had urged the Police Headquarters to provide security to Vinod. The request was turned down without assigning any reason. Difficult time for Congress, coalition in crisis
Resolution on Guru
9/20/2011 11:44:00 PM
Rustam JAMMU, Sept 20: The manner in which the ruling party/ruling coalition rejected the private member's bill seeking endorsement of the February 1994 unanimous parliamentary resolution has created serious misgivings in the minds of the people about the real intentions of the present dispensation. It has, undoubtedly, given the people of the state in general and Jammu in particular to understand that the present dispensation doesn't consider the so-called Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan an integral part of Jammu and Kashmir. In fact, the rejection of the bill on the parliamentary resolution has vindicated those who have all through accused Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and Sheikh Abd...

SI killed, civilian hurt as Pak ambushes BSF patrol on IB
In retaliatory fire, 2 Pak Rangers killed across Chak Faqir
9/20/2011 11:27:21 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU/SAMBA, Sept 20: A sub-inspector was killed and a civilian wounded in an ambush by the Pak Rangers from across the International Border (IB) at Galad in Samba sector near here this afternoon. India lodged strong protest with Pakistan, saying the firing by its Rangers was unprovoked and led to the violation of ceasefire. The incident took place at about 2.30 pm. This is the second ceasefire violation by Pakistan on IB in the past over a week. On September 12 last, Pak had resorted to heavy firing in Ramgarh sub-sector of Samba and tried to push five armed militants into the Indian territory. The infiltration bid was, however, foiled by the alert BSF personnel. DI...

Protest At Jagati Township
9/20/2011 11:26:33 PM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 20: The ferment in the Jagati Camp is quite visible. The simmering unrest is coming into the open. On Sunday, residents of the Camp from all blocks took out a procession in protest against the relief organization. They were raising slogans against the Relief Commissioner, a section of political leadership at the helm, Zonal Officers of the Relief Department and, last but not the least, against members of the Apex Committee nominated by the government. Transporters' "fare raise unfair," laments common man
9/20/2011 11:26:01 PM
Mishu Gupta JAMMU, Sept 20: Though the upcoming transporters' strike is being labeled as a pressure tactic only, the inside story reveals that a deal has been struck between the unions and the sub-committee constituted by the government on the fares hike issue. As per the sources, even if government may not succumb to their actual demand of hike that is fifty percent of the present fare, yet there is all likelihood of new hiked rates in offing for the commuters who ferry daily to and fro from their respective offices to home and back. Sources said that though sub-committee constituted by the government will not accept the 50 per cent hike as being sought by the transporters, but it is li...

Interlocutors' Day-Dreaming
9/20/2011 11:25:23 PM
Neha JAMMU, Sept 20: The Muslim League held its session in Lahore in March 1940. In his presidential address, Mohammad Ali Jinnah pointed the differences between Islam and Hinduism and asserted that the time had come to implement the two-nation theory, which had been evolved and practiced by Sir Syed Ahmad Khan in the late 1890s. He said: "The Hindus and Muslims belong to two religious philosophies, social customs and literatures. They neither inter-dine together nor inter-marry and, indeed, they belong to two different civilizations which are based mainly on conflicting ideas and conceptions. Their concepts of life and on life are different. It is quite clear that Hindus and Mussalmans de...

Appeal to Hon'ble speaker by Shri Chaman Lal Gupta BJP MLA
9/20/2011 11:23:31 PM
Sir, I had raised a question during the last session of the state assembly seeking a reply from the government regarding the decision to stop government advertisements to the daily Early Times published from Jammu. I had also spoken about the highhandedness of the government and its arbitrary, whimsical dispensation regarding distribution of official advertisements to the various newspapers published in the state. Despite repeated requests, the state government did not come forward with any reply to my question and the result has been that through its decision to ignore my question the state government has covertly accepted that it does not have a reasonable answer to my question. Hon'b...
