Congress to emerge as single largest party, says Tara Chand
Political Scene
12/27/2013 11:20:48 PM
Rustam Jammu, Dec 27: Senior Congress leader and Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand the other day claimed that the Congress will emerge as the single largest party in the state in the forthcoming Assembly elections. "The Congress will emerge as single largest party in the forthcoming Assembly elections in the state…As far as I know we (NC and Congress) have been delivering to the best of our capacities. But people always expect higher from any Government and we too want to give our best to the people. As far as the functioning of our coalition goes, let me tell you that it is running smoothly. Education, health sector, power supply, safe drinking water, social welfare schemes, infrastructure building, exploiting tourism potential, agriculture and employment generation have been the priorities of the present coalition Government and many achievements have been recorded in the respective fields since the formation of the Government in 2009," he said. The claim of Tara Chand that the Congress will emerge as the largest party in the state in the 2014 Assembly elections appears to be a ...

Kupwara's Runa Laila and Minister of Law
12/27/2013 11:14:15 PM
Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Dec 27: Directorate of Education in Srinagar has conveniently slept over a bunch of complaints about the Government school-teachers engaged with different private businesses but taking home their monthly salaries regularly from their drawing and disbursing officers (DDOs), particularly in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of north Kashmir. Exposure in the local newspapers, of many Government employees indulging in absenteeism and private businesses, has been ignored by senior officials and politicians as they have been equally the beneficiaries of the "no work full salary scam". Encouraged by the Omar Abdullah Government's inaction against such employees, a nu...

No official word... Govt still silent on findings
12/27/2013 11:14:06 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: Even as the political wranglings continue to envelope the Justice Gandhi Commission report on Kishtwar violence, full findings of the one man panel still remain elusive under wraps of mystery for reasons best known to Omar Abdullah led coalition Government in the State. Despite furore in the political corridors over a part of the report that was purportedly leaked to media, the Government has made no attempt to make this report public nor come out with any official version or statement on it. The only step it took in haste hours after this part became news was the re-induction of NC Minister Sajjad Kitchloo into Council of Ministers. Omar Abdullah led Gov...

Army puts onus on Omar to bring accountability
12/27/2013 11:13:30 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: The army has not put the onus on the Chief Minister to take action for even showing semblance of accountability and transparency in governance. Omar, who had locked horns and accused Army for not respecting the aspirations of the people, had ordered the court martial of six army personnel by the Army in the alleged Machil encounter. The order was issued despite the fact that Army had strong reservations about it. Even former army chief had also given a different version about the incident in an interview. "Now the clamour for transparency and accountability will grow more. Omar now can't shield his wrong doing by publicly accusing Army of being inse...

GAD has rebuked SVC by terming recommendations 'futuristic' while BOPEE has referred to non-availability of 'Burg Khalifa' type building for being unable to accept and implement recommendations of the commission. Of Babus, police officers, politicians and mutual interest society
12/27/2013 11:12:05 PM
Early Times Report Jammu, Dec 27: The administrative inertia in the State has reached a level where Babus, police officers and politicians have stopped fearing both God and man. The system of governance has rotted to such an extent that clerks and officers in Government departments openly and publicly demand and accept money for doing jobs for which the Government pays them monthly salaries. Who says there is fear of either the State anti-graft body or that of any accountability by supervisory authorities in Jammu and Kashmir among the corrupt Government employees? It is a fact that there are honest civil and police officers also and so are honest clerks and Government officials at othe...
