TOP STORY OF THE DAY
'SSA targets unmet due to general unrest'
J&K's blatant lie, union ministry takes strong note *Funds unspent, figures exaggerated, vacancies galore
7/29/2011 12:10:57 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, July 28: Jammu and Kashmir has been blatantly lied to the Union human resource development ministry over its inability to meet targets for implementing centrally sponsored Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) properly across the state. It has squarely put the entire blame on 'general unrest' in the state for being unable to meet targets set by the project approval board (PAB) of Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) for Jammu and Kashmir. Helplessness expressed in fulfilling commitments on account of so called 'general unrest' by the implementing agency is extremely shocking. Chief Minister during the so called 'general unrest' of 2009 and even 2010 has gone on record to state that it was limited to 10 police stations of Srinagar city. He even said that situation was calm and peaceful elsewhere in the state. One does not need to make of mention of the fact that a major portion of SSA scheme is being implemented across Jammu and Ladakh regions also. Both were peaceful and clam during the last two financial years. Project direc...

7/29/2011 12:10:18 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 28: For the public school educated Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah to attend the platinum jubilee celebrations of a high profile public school can at best be called home coming. The public school educated Chief Minister was naturally more comfortable among the staff and children of the public school in Srinagar as they spoke in the language the chief minister understands the best---English. Naturally, since it was not a government run school, the Chief Minister could safely talk about the all round development of the students while they attain academic excellence. Without doubt, the chief ...

7/29/2011 12:07:53 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, July 28: There is a brewing resentment among Kashmiri Pandits regarding back channel diplomatic initiatives without participation of Kashmiri Pandits the main party to the dispute. Recent Indo Pak dialogue, Ram Jethmalani's Kashmir Committee initiatives or any other initiative addressing only Hurriyat agenda is a pointer to a deeper conspiracy. According to sources the KP community is unanimous about their settlement in separate Home Land. Be it Panun Kashmir separate home land, All State Kashmiri Pandit C...

Walkout from DDB meetings no solution
7/29/2011 12:07:25 AM
Neha JAMMU, July 28: Last week, Panthers Part MLA from Samba Assembly constituency staged a walkout from the (Samba) district Development Board (DDB) meeting. He walked out for two specific reasons. One was that the authorities had not set up Jammu Central University despite that fact that the same was sanctioned almost two years ago. The other was the discriminatory policy of the NC-Congress coalition government towards Samba district. His specific allegation was that the state government had all along allotted inadequate funds for the development of the district. It was an important development as it demonstrated a rift between the government and the non-Congress and non-NC MLAs. Howe...

Rustam JAMMU, July 28: Congress MP and former minister in the union government Mani Shankr Aiyer, who is stauch supporter of Pakistan and who believes in the bogey of "alienation in Kashmir", is an angry man. He had been angry since the day Sonia asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to drop him from the council of ministers sometime back. However, he didn't really demonstrate his anger. He started criticizing the Congress when Sonia didn't consider him fit for a berth in the reshuffled council of minister. He became rather angry when Manmohan Singh obeyed the Sonia's directive and declared after the oath ceremony "this is the last reshuffle in the UPA 2." It is Sonia and Rahul Gandhi who...
