Omar in Singapore, Rahul in Srinagar | 'I have my roots in Kashmir and I have suffered much like many of you did --- my grandmother was killed when I was 14, my father was killed when I was 21' | | Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
SRINAGAR, Sept 26: Over a year after the radical Kashmiri separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani's address to a gathering of students at the campus, it was--- in contrast---turn of the All India Congress Committee General Secretary, Rahul Gandhi, today to reach out to an academic audience at the University of Kashmir. With Geelani languishing in 'house arrest' and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reportedly enjoying a holiday in Singapore on day one of the Legislature's autumn session, Rahul also paid obeisance at the Valley's holiest Hazratbal shrine.
Obviously, there were no security or law and order apprehensions as far as Rahul Gandhi's arrival and departure at Srinagar Airport, his landing at Nehru Helipad, near Raj Bhawan, and his brief visit to a calm Kargil were concerned. There were no obtrusive security interventions as most of the incoming and outgoing passengers at Srinagar Airport had no idea of the presence and movement of one of the country's most protected politicians. All the 20-odd flights operated without disruption. Even the SSP of Budgam district...

JAMMU, Sept 26: In an intriguingly quiet manner, Ashok Kumar Angurana, another 1980 batch IAS officer of the J&K Cadre, has been relieved by state government to join government of India.
Sources said that Angurana has joined Ministry of Panchayati Raj as Additional Secretary on September 17, 2011. A prominent son-of-the-soil officer of Jammu and Kashmir, Angurana was neither given a farewell by the state government nor was the news of his sudden shifting shared with the media, as is done as matter of routine.
Sources revealed that the real story is not that Angurana has finally escaped being a part of "dream team", but as to the behind-the-scene maneuvering attempted b...

| | Gupta calls JUTA dead, defunct body; Saraf banking on faculty support | Elections today | | Mishu Gupta
JAMMU, Sept 26: Election for President of Jammu University Teachers Association (JUTA) has virtually been turned into battle with candidates resorting to tactics contrary to what is expected of academicians.
If incumbent president Dilip Singh of Mathematics Department has made JUTA election prestige issue, another contesting candidate Prof. Rajinder Gupta of Economics Department, exactly a day before election, addressed a hurriedly called press conference wherein he labeled JUTA a 'dead and defunct' union. Stating that he would democratize this high profile association of university teachers, Gupta obliquely claimed that existing JUTA body is undemocratic where teachers are s...

JAMMU, Sept 26: Yesterday afternoon, Pakistan, which had already threatened the United States that it would lose its strategic ally (Islamabad) if continued to accuse ISI of working in unison with the Haqqani terror network and not allow any foreign power to tinker with its sovereignty, took another step to demonstrate that it is a nation that cannot compromise its self-esteem and honour. Pakistan Prime Minister Gilani yesterday asked Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar to cut short a visit to the United States and return to Pakistan. Khar was representing Pakistan in the UN General Assembly in New York. This action on the part of the otherwise failed Pakistan, plus the stand Pakista...
| | Time for Jammu legislators to assert and obtain justice | Jammu, Nation And Assembly Session | | Neha
JAMMU, Sept 26: The much-hyped 9-day-long session of the J&K legislature has started. It is expected that the session would be stormy. The Kashmir-based parties, the ruling NC and the main opposition PDP, would, it is now almost clear, try their best to corner each other to strengthen and expand their respective communal constituencies in Kashmir. The Kashmir-based Congress legislators and ministers are likely to play a similar game in their own typical way. There are reports that they are likely to go with the NC. These reports should not spring any surprise because one of the very vocal Congress ministers has on several occasions sung the NC song and publicly stated and restated tha...
| | Blue eyed boys get choice posting in ISM | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 26: The issuance of recent transfer cum promotion orders of 24 doctors in Indian System of Medicines (ISM) by the authorities has drawn a flake as the doctors wielding influence were transferred and posted at their choice of posting despite having a premature stay at their old place of posting.
There is a brewing resentment among the department staff against the biased approach of the authorities who have in violation of service rules and regulations transferred some doctors belonging to influential families or having influence in government circles were posted at their choice of posting.
According to sources the kins of politicians especially of ru...
