3/10/2012 12:31:51 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz JAMMU, Mar 9: Jammu and Kashmir's lawmakers and bureaucrats have been claiming credit for reviving and empowering anti-corruption institutions despite the fact that they have got most of the integrity and accountability related matters against them stayed in High Court. Beneficiaries of the stay orders, that have already stayed unmoved in the last three to six years, include a number of sitting and former Ministers and legislators besides IAS and IPS officers. Successive governments in the last 10 years have proudly created, revived and "strengthened" a host of anti-corruption watchdogs, These include J&K State Information Commission (SIC), J&K (State) Accountability Commission (SAC), J&K State Vigilance Organisation (SVO), J&K State Vigilance Commission (SVC) and a special designated court for CBI cases. However, the government functionaries lost no time to get the matters against them stayed in J&K High Court. During the same period, Srinagar and Jammu wings of JKHC have stayed nearly 200 corruption related matters in favour of officials and politicians and t...

Demands action should come from top
3/10/2012 12:31:13 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 9: A day after raking up the issue of alleged embezzlement of Rs 50 in JKCA in the Legislative Assembly, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti today accused the government of trying to 'shield people at the highest level ' by pushing the matter under the carpet and making small officers scapegoat in the matter.PDP chief reiterated the demand to institute enquiry in the matter and said instead of making some officials scapegoat, the action should be taken at the against those at the highest level. 3/10/2012 12:30:47 AM
early times report Jammu/Rajouri, Mar 9: As tension showed no signs of receding in Rajouri after the Tuesday attack by miscreants on a peaceful Bhairav procession at City Chowk in the town, the district administration preferred not to give any relaxation in the curfew restrictions. After Tuesday, the Bhairav procession was stoned on Wednesday too by the miscreants who were agitated by the alleged hate speech of VHP leader Togadia. While Rajouri police had registered a case against Togadia under section 153 A, the tempers were not cooled down. Following the stoning of the religious procession on Wednesday, clashes had broken out between the two communities, forcing police to fire teargas ...

Syed Junaid Hashmi JAMMU, Mar 9: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah's political advisor Devinder Rana locked horns with firebrand PDP leader Murtaza Khan in the upper house today. The two had heated exchange of words. The incident brought otherwise, dull day in the upper house alive. Even Vice-Chairman of Upper House Ajay Sadhotra could not pacify the two leaders. Problem in Valley K leadership and Delhi
Freezing Kashmir
3/10/2012 12:29:39 AM
RUSTAM JAMMU, Mar 9: Reports suggest that New Delhi and Islamabad have decided to freeze the Kashmir issue for a period of ten years and strengthen economic ties and encourage people to people contact between the two countries, statements to the contrary issued by Pakistan Foreign Minister and Foreign Secretary notwithstanding. It appears United States is behind the move. What the question to be asked is: Will Kashmiri leaders, both the so-called mainstream and separatist, appreciate the reported change in the attitude of New Delhi and Islamabad? The answer is not in the affirmative; the answer is a big NO. Kashmiri leaders would not appreciate the reported change of heart on the part of ...

Mood Of Jammu
3/10/2012 12:29:18 AM
NEHA JAMMU, Mar 9: The Congress party in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) is being termed as the B-team of the National Conference (NC). It's not only its arch-political rivals such as the Bharitya Janata Party (BJP) and Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) who dismiss the Congress as the B-team or C-team of the NC. Almost all the Congress-watchers in the state as well as politically awakened people term the Congress as B-team of the NC, saying the only duty of the Congress is to follow the diktats of the NC and defend whatever the latter does. One may or may not appreciate what the critics of the Congress have been saying about this party, called Indian National Congress (INC). But o...
