TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Congress stumps NC over Sheikh Abdullah, resolution withdrawn
'Bharat Ratna for NC founder'
3/2/2012 12:30:23 AM
Syed Junaid Hashmi Jammu, Mar 1: In a bizarre political development, Congress today stumped National Conference (NC) in the legislative council by ensuring withdrawal of the resolution seeking declaration of Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah a National Hero and incorporating his vision of unity in the text books of board of school education. Eight National Conference (NC) MLCs which included its leader in the upper house Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardy and Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah's companion, known widely as man behind 'Aatish-e-Chinaar', Mohammed Yousuf Taing pressed hard but to no avail. The mover Dr. Bashir Ahmed Veeri was seemingly forced to withdraw the 'extra-ordinary' resolution by NC-Congress government, which was being represented by Minister for Health and Medical Education R.S.Chib. Referring to Congress instead of government might invite wrath of the chairman but Chib was replying on behalf of Minister for School Education who is NC founder Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah's grandson and presently head of the state Omar Abdullah. It is million dollar question if Omar Abdullah would have als...

FD's misdeeds and career of 14 class IV employees
Jungle main mangal
3/2/2012 12:30:01 AM
Asif Iqbal Naik kishtwar, Mar 1: Ignoring the directions of General Administrative Department (GAD), the Forest Department Jammu has put the career of 14 newly selected class IV employees into jeopardy. The officials of the said department have failed to identify the posts in the department to facilitate joining of the candidates selected by district level committees in 2006. Pertinent to mention the former district of Doda was divided into three districts, Ramban, Kishtwar and Doda during Ghulam Nabi Azad's regime. It is widely believed that the officials of the forest department are reluctant to allow the 14 selected candidates to join to cover their misdeeds. As per the details, D...

3/2/2012 12:29:41 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: Even after about two-year, there is no trace of two girls who went missing from Paddar in Kishtwar district in July 2010. The police believed that they most probably have jumped into the river. But till now their bodies haven't been recovered. They investigation in this regard is in strong contrast to Shopian case, which not only put the valley in turmoil but also ensured a CBI inquiry . Majlis Mushawarat, spearheaded the campaign of two missing women and put the government in dock for quite sometime. The case was investigated and it was established by the agency that girls were neither raped nor murdered. The agency filed a chargesheet against 13 peop...

Omar himself sabotaged AFSPA proposal, 'diverted public attention from Haji Yousuf case ': Mehbooba
'No takers to blame PDP for everything'
3/2/2012 12:29:29 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: Two days after the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah made a reference in his reply on Governor's speech in the Legislature , blaming PDP for scuttling his 'mission' for partial revocation of the controversial Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act by, leader of the Opposition and Peoples Democratic Party president Mehbooba Mufti today countered the accusations in same tone and tenor and said he was himself responsible for sabotaging the proposal and that he did it with a 'motive'. While Omar had contended that PDP scuttled it by "making statements" that the state government should take army on board, Mehbooba countered with similar political punch alleging ...

3/2/2012 12:28:28 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: The coalition government's every blunder is adding to political gains of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state which is consolidating its position day by day not only in Kashmir Valley but Jammu region. The tough stance taken by the Party against the corruption and other issues concerning the people of the state in State Legislature are adding to its popularity day by day and if Party consolidated its position this way it will wipe out the ruling alliance completely from the Valley. The people in the state are fed up with the wrong and anti people policies of the coalition government in the state said Javed Rasool a private school teacher from Sout...

3/2/2012 12:28:17 AM
Bashir Assad Jammu, Mar 1: The Transfer of Property (Amendment) Bill, 2012 tabled by the revenue minister Raman Bhala in the lower house today, is likely to generate a debate on its constitutionality as the legal experts and other stake holders have certain legitimate concerns and hold the view that Transfer of Land to Chenab Valley Power Projects (Private) Limited for construction, commissioning, maintenance and running of three Hydroelectric Projects viz. Pakaldul, Kiru and Kawar, on lease basis is in contravention to the laws governing the concerned field. Minister for Revenue Raman Bhala today tabled the proposed amendment Bill in the lower house seeking lease of immovable prope...

Behind the scene talks to resolve Kashmir
Sacrificing Jammu & Ladakh
3/2/2012 12:27:58 AM
Rustam Jammu, Mar 1: According to reports, the Congress-dominated UPA Government is trying its level best to start parleys with Kashmiri separatists like Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq. It's true that Geelani and Mirwaiz have denied media reports to this effect for obvious reasons, but, still, there are some cogent reasons to believe these reports. For, reports to the effect that the "track-II actors", at the behest of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, are working overtime to open up dialogue with Kashmiri separatist leaders to break the deadlock have appeared in responsible leading newspapers. These reports have suggested that while the Government of India is willing to enter...

Congress's loss would be gain of BJP, NPP provided…
Jammu's Political Scene
3/2/2012 12:27:39 AM
Neha Jammu, Mar 1: BJP, like the Congress, is a national political party. It also has its branch in Jammu and Kashmir. But its support-base in the state is limited only nearly two dozen assembly constituencies and that, too, in Jammu province, which elects 37 MLAs and 2 members of Lok Sabha. The BJP demonstrated its strength in Jammu a number of times, particularly after 1998 and 1999, when it captured both the Lok Sabha seats - Jammu-Poonch and Udhampur-Doda - trouncing the Congress candidates. It also demonstrated its strength in 2008 by capturing 11 assembly seats. As of now, the BJP is passing through a very critical phase, with as many as 7 MLAs thrown out of the party on the charge t...

Jagati Camp: Will the change bring relief?
3/2/2012 12:27:07 AM
Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 1: When the stories of alleged corruption in the Relief Organisation and the brewing unrest against it in the Jagati Camp appeared EARLY TIMES most of the esteemed readers were surprised more about the defiance shown by the residents of Jagati Camp against the authorities. But very few accepted any action from the government. In fact, when the then Relief Commissioner was again posted back in the department and none other than the minister-in-charge of the department chose to virtually pat the backs of the employees of the Relief Department for their services many thought that "atmosphere of fear and intimidation will only grow in the camps and the dwellers t...
