While one Doda MLA played host to ultra tasked to eliminate Azad, another shifted wounded militant in car to Jammu for treatment | | | Bharat Bhushan
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, July 21: Two Congress MLAs of the erstwhile Doda district are under the scanner of state and central agencies for their alleged links with militants.
Allegations against them are of very serious nature but the government and its coalition partner Congress, who are said to be in possession of documents detailing their alleged pro-militant activities incident by incident, have so far preferred not to air their concern in this regard in public. But why? What stops chief minister Omar Abdullah, who also heads home department, to move against them? Does he feel it will amount to annoying "big brother" Congress at the Centre? Or does he feel an action, or even ordering a probe into the alleged conduct of the two MLAs, both ex-ministers, can become the reason of arch rival PDP's tirade against NC?
PDP, however, has its own political compulsions and may not like to exploit the issue for its advantage as it enjoyed power for three years in the previous coalition government with Congress blessings. However, had it been NC MLAs, the situation co...

| | Fai's arrest a setback for Kashmiri separatist movement | Irony: Anti-Indians are secure in India, insecure in America | |
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz
EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, July 21: At the end of the picnic at Luray Caverns, our host of the day, Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, treated us with a tea at his splendid office, one block from the White House. It was now the turn of politics. He wanted to know what the Kashmiris had gained and lost in the 16-year-long armed struggle against India. All four of my colleagues made brief interventions but all of them insisted me only to make the key presentation.
Since none of us carried any brief, I had no option but to be honest in my expression. I explained how an essentially political struggle of a major chunk of population in Kashmir valley had been turned into a goldmine fo...

Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 21: Sheikh Nazir Ahmad, the ruling National Conference (NC) general secretary and the cousin of party patron, Dr. Farooq Abdullah literally lost his cool while interacting with party legislators, senior workers and middle rung leaders recently in Srinagar.
Sheikh Nazir has been known for his proximity to both Dr. Abdullah and his late father, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah. The reins of party had been handed over to him by the Abdullah family for good reasons. He would maintain a close control on the party and also keep it politically active and kicking.
Unfortunately, two things have taken a serious beating during the la...

Early Times Report

| | NC loss is gain to PDP while Congress erosion is helpful for BJP | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, July 21: Though their number is over six lakhs Government employees do not have as much capacity for making or marring the fortune of political parties during the Assembly elections as about three lakh employees have in the neighbouring Himachal Pradesh.
It is an admitted fact that employees in Himachal Pradesh have become king makers. There are over 40 lakh voters in Himachal Pradesh and hence the total number of employees and their family members, put together, constitute 40 per cent of the total electorate. Since the employees and their family members, who are registered voters do not avoid casting votes their each vote counts.
In Jammu and Kashmir the total ...

JAMMU, July 21: US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton held detailed discussions with her Indian counterpart S M Krishna on July 19 at Hyderabad House, New Delhi.
