SRINAGAR, Nov 7: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s politically paralysed National Conference (NC) finally came out of its slumber over the death of two civilians in an incident of stone pelting in Shopian today when two of the party’s Cabinet Ministers came down heavily on the separatist leadership and held it directly responsible for current spell of bloodshed and mayhem in the Valley. Meanwhile, yet another rally assailed sponsors of unending shutdowns in the heart of Srinagar even as it was immediately subjected to an attack by dozens of stone pelters on the third consecutive day of Hurriyat (Geelani)-sponsored “civil curfew” to commemorate the Muslims killed in communal riots in Jammu in 1947.

JAMMU, Nov 7: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah feels the Armed Forces Special Powers Act can be withdrawn from some areas in the state with a rider that the army could step in again if the situation so warranted.
He will soon chair a high-level meeting to review possible withdrawal of Disturbed Areas Act, which may subsequently lead to removal of AFSPA. "I think the time has come where we can start to objectively look at areas from where the AFSPA can be removed with the understanding that if there is a situation requiring the Army to intervene, we can make a temporary sort of return to that," Omar said.

JAMMU, Nov 7: The nephew of a slain Hizbul Mujahideen (HM) commander has been detained under public safety act (PSA) in Reasi for his militant links.
Shabir Shah, son of Mohammad Hanief of Lar, Mahore, was apprehended by police from Lower Dubri in Mahore last month while he was planning to eliminate some people of the area.
He is nephew of HM commander Mushtaq alias Irfan, who was killed by security forces in an encounter in Mahore area few months back. Police sources said Shabir was involved in providing foods, shelter and logistic support to HM militants active in and around Mahore.

JAMMU, Nov 7: A shopkeeper was murdered and his face crushed with stones by about four inebriated youth at Gsanu in Akhnoor, about 25 km from here, Saturday night after he asked them to behave themselves and not to shower abuses in the locality.
Four odd youth last evening came in a minibus from Maira Mandrian to Gsanu and consumed liquor outside the kiryana shop of Ashok Sharma, son of Diwan Chand.

Srinagar, Nov 7: There are no curfew restrictions in the entire Kashmir Valley, the state police said on Sunday.
