TOP STORY OF THE DAY
Samba cremates brave Lt. Khajuria with full military honours, CM forgets martyr
Omar, Ministers, MLAs preferred wrestling over Afzal Guru resolution
9/30/2011 8:30:19 AM
Mishu Gupta JAMMU, Sept 29: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, his Home Minister Nasir Aslam Wani and other self-acclaimed nationalist politicians preferred parliament attack convict Afzal Guru over participating in the funeral procession of Lt. Sushil Khajuria who achieved martyrdom while bravely fighting terrorist in Kupwara on September 27. Khajuria was a youngman from Samba district, a state subject whose martyrdom added to the peace building process of Jammu and Kashmir, something about which Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his coterie talks off and on. The young man gave his life to ensure that not only the commoners but the high profile VVIPs i.e. Omar and his political friends live a safe and trouble free life. It is same coterie including Chief Minister Omar Abdullah which does not miss an opportunity to reach to those killed in terrorist violence or those who get killed in routine stone-pelting incidents across Kashmir. By keeping distance from martyr Lt. Sushil Khajuria funeral procession, political elite of Jammu and Kashmir has made it amply clear that what does ...

Guru resolution tangents: BJP’s cross-voting, Cong’s sex scam
Speaker clashes with Mehbooba, names BJP’s “whip violators”, asks Assembly to wait for HC verdict
9/30/2011 8:29:18 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Sep 29: On the third consecutive day of disruption of Business in Legislative Assembly today, ruling Congress party persisted with the tangential issue of the disqualification of certain BJP MLAs even as Speaker maintained that the matter was sub judice and he was barred to take any decision. BJP, on the other hand, launched a counter-offensive while shouting slogans and urging Speaker to also read out names of the Congress legislators who were allegedly involved in the infamous Srinagar Sex Scandal of 2006. Even after scuttling the hyper-sensitive resolution on Afzal Guru’s mercy with raking up tangential issues in Assembly and engaging the rival BJP ...

J&K Assembly victims of Omar's Tweets, not national politics: Mehbooba
'By revealing names of rape victims, Govt has ruined 1300 families'
9/30/2011 12:48:20 AM
Ahmed Ali Fayyaz SRINAGAR, Sept 29: Contesting her arch rival Omar Abdullah's contention that J&K Legislative Assembly had become a victim of the national politics over Afzal Guru resolution, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today held the Chief Minister responsible for first stoking the fire with his Tweets and later getting the mercy motion scuttled. "Omar Abdullah got the State Assembly involved when he tweeted about Tamil Nadu Assembly resolution (seeking clemency for Rajiv Gandhi killers). Omar had a moral obligation to ensure that the resolution is discussed and put to vote. Instead, he looked entertained by the Congress-BJP drama, threw smiles and made no att...

Cong 'overstretching' cross voting issue to pull down rivals
'Cover up' politics on Guru resolution ….?
9/30/2011 12:47:51 AM
Saroj Razdan JAMMU, Sept 29: What ruling Congress did in the Assembly on Wednesday is well understood as a matter of political compulsion and in order to save itself from any possible damage over Afzal Guru issue. Both its ministers and MLAs digressed completely and instead colluded directly with its opponent BJP, that too on an issue which for long has now been pushed into political oblivion in the state scene. Both sides raised pitch , resulting in ruckus and pandemonium and eventually adjournment of House, which was all on expected lines. The ruling national party did not 'wrap' this up and tried to pull up the rival party today as well, something which now looks like doing 'cover up...

Sub-standard work on NH 1B
9/30/2011 12:47:25 AM
Asif Iqbal Naik KISHTWAR, Sept 29: A group of at least over a dozen people on way to Doda stopped the construction work of drain-cum-protection wall being constructed on Kishtwar-Batote National Highway near Shalimar after they saw GREF labourers mixing cement with mud and stones to be used for construction purpose. On seeing the open loot of GREF labourers, they inquired about mixing of cement with mud and boulders. To their surprise, labourers told them that this practice has been going on since long. On this, the agitated people brought the matter into the notice of Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar at 9.30 AM, who accordingly deputed Naib-Tehsildar Rajesh Kumar to verify the fa...

Mess in Education Department
9/30/2011 12:46:55 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: Notwithstanding the claims of Government to put Education Department back on rails in the state in general and far-flung areas in particular which has received a great set back during the 22 year long turmoil , the sad state of affairs continues in the educational institutions in far flung areas of the state. According to sources failure of Government to make a check and monitor the functioning of educational institutions has resulted into a mess in the Department as schools are locked for days together in remote and far-flung areas with teachers enjoying the liberty. Sources said recently in Balakote area of Mendhar tehsil the Deputy Chief Education o...

Blessings too need to be changed to save girl child
`Putri Wati Bhav'
9/30/2011 12:46:21 AM
Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 29: Ever since the Census Department gave the dwindling girl-boy ratio, lot of crocodile tears have been shed to `save the girl child'. The state government has taken steps ranging from seizure of USG machines from private clinics to a massive media campaign to set the ratio right. However, not only the mindset but the words used to bless a married woman need to be changed as well to achieve the goal. But is it possible? Putra Wati Bhaw (May God bless you with a baby boy). This is how elderly people bless women. How can things change? Be the change you want in the world, thus said Gandhiji. People have changed and so has their outlook and thinking. But th...

NC director, Cong & BJP actors, says Mehbooba; NPP demands dissolution of assembly
Bill On Guru: NC-Cong Exposed -- II
9/30/2011 12:45:51 AM
Rustam JAMMU, Sept 29: If the NC exposed itself to the extent possible and established that it could go to any extent to retain control over power, the political behaviour of the Congress, its alliance partner, was no different. Rather, it was more disturbing and questionable. It was the Congress MLAs who took the lead and created chaos in the assembly, with the Chief Minister and those responsible for smooth conduct of business not only watching the ugly conduct of the Congress MLAs as mute spectators but also enjoying and laughing. No attempt was made to control the unruly Congress MLAs. The conduct of the some of the Congress ministers was also far from satisfactory. They kept standing ...

Baseless allegations against Dogra rule
9/30/2011 12:39:54 AM
Neha JAMMU, Sept 29: It has become customary with some biased Kashmiri writers to paint the Dogra rule oppressive and anti-Kashmiri and, at the same time, suggest solutions designed to enable Kashmir to establish its stranglehold over Jammu province. An article by a writer from Kashmir valley titled ""Formations of the Kashmir" which has painted the Dogra rule and the Dogras black and suggested a solution which, if accepted, would seal the fate of the people of Jammu province for all the times to come. It is, in fact, a note on the atrocities allegedly committed by the Dogras on Kashmiri Muslims. The article, among things, says: "The most intense and enduring political memory that J&K ...

Appeal to Hon'ble speaker by Shri Chaman Lal Gupta BJP MLA
9/29/2011 11:41:11 PM
Sir, I had raised a question during the last session of the state assembly seeking a reply from the government regarding the decision to stop government advertisements to the daily Early Times published from Jammu. I had also spoken about the highhandedness of the government and its arbitrary, whimsical dispensation regarding distribution of official advertisements to the various newspapers published in the state. Despite repeated requests, the state government did not come forward with any reply to my question and the result has been that through its decision to ignore my question the state government has covertly accepted that it does not have a reasonable answer to my question. Hon'b...
